First Autumn term

We have had an amazing start to the year!  We have been super busy already in our learning. In Science we have been looking at our skeletons and why they are important. In Art we have been looking at the technique of collage and how other artists have used this technique. In Geography, we have even taken on the role of structural engineers as we have been designing free standing structures that can withstand the effects of an earthquake. As if that wasnt enough, we have even been creating our own dragon eyes out of clay as we have been looking at different dragon stories in our English lessons. Take a look

Amazing abstract art work

Class 7 have stunned me today with their creativity and flair in creating their very own abstract art work. We began our learning by appreciating the artwork of Kandinsky, and discussed his use of shape and vivid colours. Having been inspired by this, we then set to work on creating our own abstract art work using shapes, patterns and colour. They look truly amazing. We even took time to appreciate each others work, talking about what we liked.

Stone Age Day

Wow – What a day!  We have truly experienced what life would have been like in the Stone Age. We have looked at historical artefacts such as a mammoths tooth as well as seen how fire was made with flint. We experienced life as a hunter and enjoyed a class game trying to spear mammoths and deer with our (foam) spears. We have looked at animal furs, talked about prehistoric foods and explored how life developed through the Bronze Age and Iron Age. We finished off our day with some chariot racing – a favourite past time of people in the Neolithic era. Enjoy our photos …

Maths Fun

In preparation for our new unit of work on addition and subtraction, children in class 7 have been using a range of equipment and representations to consolidate place value. We have used base 10, numicon, place value counters and part whole models. We can identify how many hundreds, tens and ones are in a 3 digit number and how we can use equipment to help us add and subtract from a 3 digit number. We have looked at the important skills of regrouping and exchanging. Take a look …..

dragons!

Well, Class 7 have worked so hard over the last few weeks, writing their own non chronological reports on dragons. They based their stories on a good model text that they already know really well – The Manchester Ridgeback. They then innovated this text to create their very own dragon. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about Thunder dragons, Rainbow dragons and Blaze dragons. To celebrate their fantastic reports, we have enjoyed making our own clay dragon eyes. Take a look ……
